Tetrahand Surgery Topic at Finnish Hand Society Congress

The scientific topic of this year's Finnish Hand Society meeting in Helsinki was tendon transfer surgery with focus on tetraplegia hand surgery. Dr. Tove Palmgren (photo left) from Tölö Hospital in Helsinki reported about recent experiences in the field of tetraplegia hand surgery. The need for centralizing this relatively rare special service was emphasized and discussed. Invited speakers were also Dr Eija Ahoniemi from Synapsia rehabilitation center, occupational therapist Marjo Mustaniemi and Hand Surgeon Jan Fridén from Sahlgrenska University Hospital who shared their knowledge about conservative and surgical treatment of hand function in tetraplegics. Everybody agreed that a close cooperation between the rehabilitation community and surgeons is critical for successful development of the tetraplegia hand surgery.
