2010 Tetraplegia Hand Conference in Paris, France

The 10th Tetraplegia Hand Conference took place in Paris, France, September 20-22, 2010. This congress gathered about 180 participants from 24 countries all over the world. The growing awareness of the potential of upper limb surgery in tetraplegia was reflected by the highest number of tetraplegia hand specialists ever coming together to present and discuss scientific data on surgery and rehabilitation. The first day comprised three different workshops:
  1. SURGICAL TECHNIQUES
  2. EXAMINATION AND REHABILITATION OF THE TETRAPLEGIC SHOULDER
  3. SPASTICITY AND BOTULIN TOXIN
The next two days covered five different themes:
  1. PREPARING THE PATIENT FOR SURGERY
  2. INCOMPLETE INJURIES
  3. BASIC SCIENCE APPLICABLE TO THE TETRAPLEGIC UPPER LIMB
  4. THE SHOULDER OF THE TETRAPLEGIC PATIENT
  5. SURGERY, REHABILITATION, AND OUTCOMES
Taken together this conference contained multi-fold of new, powerful and important data on patient perspecitives, international collaboration in multi-center studies, novel surgical techniques, new assessment tools, outcome measurements, basic science on muscle-tendon-joint mechanics and several other evidences of development in the tetraplegia hand function field.
