Summer Safety Checklist

Summer Safety Checklist

Many accidents occurring during summer activities are preventable. Keep in mind when:

Swimming and diving
  • Do not dive in less than nine feet of water
  • Don't drink and dive -- ever
  • Be aware of sandbars
  • No board, no diving!
Boating
  • Keep your distance
  • Obey speeds limits
  • Don't dive off the boat -- go feet first
  • Be watchful and defensive
Surfing
  • Hold board so it extends past head
Biking
  • Always wear a helmet that is snug, fitted, and level.
  • If your helmet is cracked, damaged or more than three to five years-old -- replace it.
On the road
  • If you are the driver, just drive. Don't let kids or others in the car distract you.
  • Never text while driving and don't talk on your cell phone.
  • Buckle up. Make sure the bottom strap rests across your hips and the shoulder strap across your chest.
  • Make sure your child is in a car seat appropriate for his or her age and size.
